When To Book Your Newborn Session | Courtney Dorsey Photography | WV, OH, KY Newborn Photographer | Barboursville West Virginia

When To Book Your Newborn Session | Courtney Dorsey Photography | WV, OH, KY Newborn Photographer | Barboursville West Virginia

I get a lot of messages with the question “Courtney when is the best time to book my newborn session” and I feel like it deserves not just an answer but also an explanation so it made it to the blog ❤️.

Newborn sessions are time sensitive and precious and and definitely can’t be replicated. That window where your brand new baby will sleep through being posed as though they are still all snuggled up inside of momma’s womb is short. And not to mention they change so quickly every.single.day right?!

I love to have your baby in the studio between 6-14 days after birth as a general rule. Now, there are lots of considerations that go into that rule: due date, birth weight, twins, early deliveries, circumcision for boys, etc. but that’s the general rule of thumb I like to give momma’s.

I also photograph lots of little ones after that 14 days, just with some expectations that some poses might not be an option and we may have more wrapped shots than “nakey” ones.

With that being said, the best time to get you on the books is during your second trimester. I only take a certain number of newborn sessions per month to ensure I can give you the best possible experience and be able to work around your delivery date whether it be right on time, early, or late.

I often get lots of messages from families after baby has already arrived and many times it’s just not possible to work you in around families I have been on call for that month. And let’s be honest I adore all of your tiny humans and do not want to turn anyone away, so shoot us a message or call and let’s get you on the schedule early!

After we get you all squared away it’s just a matter of letting me know after your sweet bundle of joy has arrived and we will make a plan based on what’s best for you, baby, and myself for a specific day and time for your session.

I hope this helps explain why it’s important to plan ahead for newborn sessions. If you have any questions at all, shoot me an email and let’s chat!

Welcome Miss Molly <3

This one sure has been prayed for, you guys! I’d love to tell you the whole story but it’s not mine and you would need tissues 😉 Lets just suffice to say that I am so so glad she is here and so is her precious family who just so happens to be some of my very favorite humans.

Just like her brother before her, Molly loved being all swaddled up and warm instead of being nakey, which is just fine with us – she’s pretty cute either way <3

And, can we please talk about how she has the best big brother around? Its rare at his age; we usually have to talk them into snuggling new sibling this early on, but Beckett is a pro and I have no qualms he is going to take care of her for life!

Hope you guys enjoy Miss Molly as much as I did

Welcome Miss Navy to the blog <3

This tiny ball of cuteness was born at Cabell Huntington Hospital in October and I guess it’s only fitting for family to have to wait behind everyone else. But finally in all of her glory she has finally hit the blog!!

Don’t take that to say we don’t absolutely adore her and her sweet little grin, she is my second great niece (I know, I know, I’m getting old) and I have sooo much fun snuggling her and sending her home with her momma to stay up all night 😉

With the studio in Barboursville nice and toasty as usually for our tiny humans, she slept like a dream and did everything Aunt Courtney asked of her. I hope you guys enjoy all my favorites of miss Navy’s session

2018 NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY

When I sat down to gather a few of these images I was reminded at how much I love this business and how great my clients are! Newborn photography is definitely my passion and I love each and everyone of you for trusting me with your brand new littles this year.

It has been a honor to work with you all, thank you for supporting me this year and I hope to see you again in the new year <3

This sweet girl is finally home where she belongs and I’m so happy for her forever family <3

Bonnets on babies (boys and girls) might be my favorite if you haven’t noticed yet!!

Isn’t this girl the prettiest in pink? Baby Oaklynn was so perfect for her session and couldn’t be cuter!

This little guy might have my heart <3 There is no denying I love babies with head fulls of hair and he definitely did NOT disappoint!

This little tator is snuggled in one of my very favorite @luneberry flokati’s and a gorgeous hand knitted wrap and bonnet from @Lola’s Little Knits

Who doesn’t love succulents?? This was such a fun creative session!

This sweet boy was so perfect for his session and just all smiles! It’s been so great to have him back in the studio this year for his milestone sessions <3 I also happen to adore this blue for boys and girls (@manly and pretty little things)

Here is a little tid bit about me, lol, my momma would have traded me for a redhead she loved them so much 😉 This little cutie was definitely the perfect shade.

Sleepy caps are just as cute as bonnets and this color makes me swoon every time i get to use it!

Peachy perfection this little one was in the softest sheepskin’s ever from @luneberry

This is one of my favorite poses because it’s all about those sweet little faces <3

This is a lot of momma’s favorite pose, but don’t worry, it’s a composite so baby is always safe 😉
